Educating Not Just Minds, But Also Hearts

 Hello, my dear followers😇

This week’s task in our Instructional Technologies and Material Design in ELT course was to create a podcast. The topic of my podcast is empathy in education. Let me tell you why I chose this topic.

On Friday, April 18, before my last midterm exam, I started to feel dizzy. When I started the exam, my dizziness continued and then slowly my hands started to go numb. I remember the last time I tried to hold the pen with the tip of my two fingers and mark the answer. After my hands, I started not to feel my feet, I was sweating excessively. Finally, my mouth was numb, I couldn't speak, I couldn't carry my own head, I couldn't walk, I felt like my hands were locked and I couldn't use my hands. In short, I was in need of someone

Since I did this assignment after that incident, this topic immediately came to my mind. That day, even though it’s not fully possible to understand how individuals with disabilities feel, I was able to understand it a little. And after that day, I started to look at life from a different perspective.

I believe everyone should empathize with individuals with disabilities. However, I don’t think we need to experience such bad events in order to be able to empathize with them. Empathy education should be taught in schools starting from primary school. In schools, we should educate not only the minds but also the hearts.

I would also like to give such assignments to my students in the future. This way, I can discover their inner world. Another advantage is that I can learn about the feelings and thoughts of my introverted students through this method. Also, this kind of task would help me approach my students more empathetically.

As a disadvantage, preparing a podcast might be difficult for younger students, but considering that the new generation is a technology generation, I don’t think it would be too hard for them.

I created my podcast using Vocaroo

This is my podcast.⬇️ Enjoy listening.😊

Let’s not forget: As Einstein said, “The world is not full of dangerous people, it is full of bystanders.

Have you ever create a podcast?

Stay curious for the next post 😉
